Social Change
Through our Social Change efforts Breaking Free assists the community to recognize that prostitution is not an “adult onset” problem or "choice". Prostitution is a systematic issue rooted in oppression, abuse, exploitation, and often racism. These are some of the most significant issues to address and major challenges faced as Breaking Free advances it’s mission.
From the Candelight Vigil 2008
Prostituted/sex-trafficked women and girls continue to face significant barriers and challenges and are a severely underserved population. These women face a myriad of extenuating circumstances including responsibility for young children, lack of training, limited technology/ computer skills, lack of transportation or housing, and lack of stabilizing life skills that can cause them to feel hopelessness, despair defeated about their futures. Many women need encouragement and training to access jobs that pay enough for life’s basic essentials.
